Creating a budget comes after you have decided what your objective is. Figure out what you need most, is it building a brand name, getting more leads or increasing sales? Once you figure that out you can determine a budget. For Rock the Aisle Bridal, we focus on our shows as a main marketing tactic. Through shows we can open up to the community at a low cost therefore using less of a budget. There are a lot of benefits to having a budget. They help you make goals, communicate, and grow. Having a budget is important if you want to know whether you are spending more than you are earning. Actually, it can really save your business from failing.

Communicating to your team is necessary. Drawing up a budget allows your team to be in the know. Let them know what you want to succeed in and how you want to do it.

You might get scared off by a budget if you aren’t a numbers person. Even if you aren’t someone in your company should be. It’s not so much about numbers, more so it is about the relationship between what is going in and what is going out. If the two aren’t bringing in what you want, it’s time to make some changes. This could be cutting back on some unnecessary purchases.

Creating a budget can bring you in more money. By creating a budget you are determining how much you want to make in a year. Then you will want to succeed and do anything you can to reach that amount. On the other hand, your budget can tell you whether or not it is a realistic goal.

Other benefits you can receive from creating a budget is the ability to be flexible. Things come up all the time. You may need to put in money to have work done on your office unexpectedly. This takes out money. You need to be able to adapt to those circumstances. It will cause you to take money from areas and move things around. It will help you be more comfortable with changes. Not only will you be able to adapt to change but you will make decisions much faster. Your budget has the answer to everything. Whether or not you can afford to hire a new employee or whether you need to cut someone. Look no further, than your budget.

After reading all this you are probably trying to figure out how to make a budget. Here are a few simple steps to help you! First step is to download a software to help you, especially if you are not a numbers person. Quickbooks is very common with small businesses and highly recommended. Step two is to look at past revenues and spending. This will help you determine what you’ve made in past years and whether or not you can earn more this year. Step three, throw around some numbers. Try and guess what you are going to make. You can then compare those to what you are making as time goes on. Last step, see how you are doing. Does your budget go along with your goals? If it is not working, change whatever you need to. The nice thing about  budget is that it is not set in stone. You can change things around whenever and however you want.

Planning is key if you want to run a successful small business. Today’s softwares allow you to be able to plan out everything. Your budget is one of the most important things you can do. Plan accordingly, but remember that it is ok if things don’t work out exactly the way they were suppose to. Businesses are always changing and you need to be ready for that.
